São Paulo FC has been punished by FIFA with a transfer ban and is unable to register new players. The sanction was due to the non-payment of a commission to Jonathan Calleri's former agent.

What happened?

The club stated that “there was a disagreement over the amount claimed by Calleri's agent and, therefore, São Paulo waited for FIFA's decision, which is responsible for the intermediation”. The entity arbitrated the value at $1.2 million (approximately R$ 5.3 million).

Why is this important for São Paulo FC?

This is the second time São Paulo FC has been punished with a transfer ban in 2025. In August, the club was punished after being sued by Cerro Porteño, of Paraguay, for delayed payment of installments related to the hiring of midfielder Damián Bobadilla.

What's next?

São Paulo FC is waiting for the transfer window to open in January to start a reformulation of the squad. The club plans to rejuvenate the squad and reduce the number of players in the department. Currently, there are 10 players out of action due to injury. Among them, Calleri, who is recovering from surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.
